The Milky Way galaxy has at least 150 globular clusters, the nearest of which is about 6,000 light-years away.
Astronomers estimate the ages of globular clusters are between 11.5 to 13.5 billion years.
A more recent program (#13297; PI: Piotto) returned to M30 and other globular clusters in our galaxy, observing the clusters with Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3.
An Alta-X drone equipped with the agency’s Safe and Precise Landing – Integrated Capabilities Evolution (SPLICE) guidance, navigation, and control payload completed simulated lunar descent and landing maneuvers on Aug. 27.
Davis Adams, project manager, confirmed that the SPLICE experiment is communicating with an Alta-X drone near NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
